The Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI)

The Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) was established under the Health and Social Care Act 2003, and operational on 1 April 2004. Incorporating the work of the former Social Services Inspectorate (SSI), the SSI/Audit Commission Joint Review Team and the National Care Standards Commission (NCSC), the CSCI is now the single independent inspectorate for social care in England.

CRB Criminal Records Bureau

The CRB – an executive agency of the Home Office – is set up to help organisations make safer recruitment decisions. By providing wider access to criminal record information, the CRB helps employers in the public, private and voluntary sectors identify candidates who may be unsuitable for certain work, especially that involving contact with children or other vulnerable members of society.

Topss England

Topss England is the employment-led body leading on education, training and workforce development strategy for social care, including social work. At the time of going to press, Topss England is negotiating to be licensed with its UK partners as the Sector Skills Council for social care.
